GeigerCars Bumps 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang up to 810 PS

Posted by admin

GeigerCars has given a significant power increase to the Mustang Shelby GT500.  The car’s output was pumped up from 540 PS (397 kW / 533 bhp) to an impressive 810 PS (596 kW / 799 bhp).

Top speed on the car is now 354 km/h (220 mph).  Sprint times were not revealed in the press release.

Torque on the 5.4-liter V8 engine was increased up to 945 Nm (697 lb-ft).  The power improvements are in part due to a 3.3-liter compressor which puts out 1.6 bar pressure.  Other performance enhancers include better air flow, new cylinder heads, more coolers, bigger throttle valves, and upgraded fuel injection.

The car’s transmission was modified to be able to take the extra power, and a three-disc carbon clutch was also used.  Large 380 mm drilled brake discs were added, along with six-piston calipers.

Other changes made to the car included a new racing chassis.  OZ alloys were added, measuring 8.5×20″ at the front and 10×20″ in back.  Wheels are wrapped in high performance Michelin tires.

Pricing on the GeigerCars version of the Shelby GT500 Mustang has not been disclosed.

2011 Shelby GT350 Mustang Revealed at Barrett Jackson Auction

Posted by admin

Shelby American has unveiled the Shelby GT350 at the Opening Night Gala of the Barrett-Jackson Auction to honor the 45th anniversary of the classic GT350.

The 2011 Shelby GT350 is a throwback to the MY Shelby GT350 series of the mid and late 60s, which was the first Shelby big block Cobra. The GT350 was discontinued in 1970.

The commemorative model, a limited edition series, is based on the standard Ford Mustang GT and was developed with help from Ford Racing. It features many of the styling cues of the old GT350, including the double blue stripes lengthwise across the top of the car. Ford Racing helped supercharge the engine as well as upgrade the suspension by supplying new sway bars, struts, and springs as well as adjustable caster/camber plates.

The car features the same “small block” 5.0 liter V8 from the Mustang GT, supercharged to about 500 hp, and mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The performance package also includes Baer brakes and 19-inch Cragar wheels wrapped in Goodyear sport tires.

Exterior touches at the front include a fascia and splitter, along with air scoops on the hood and side skirts. At the rear is a new fascia too and a deck lid filler panel. GT350 badges are strewn about, and the A-pillar features integrated fuel, oil and boost gauges.

The price for the 2011 Shelby GT350 package is $33,995 (23,650 euros), not including the base Mustang GT itself.

2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake released with 725hp

Posted by admin

2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake released with 725hp

Las Vegas-based tuners Shelby are releasing another new set of mods for the Mustang.  The limited edition 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake includes improvements both to power and performance.

“Over the past 12 months, my team of hot rodders was hard at work on a Super Snake package for the next generation GT500,” said Carroll Shelby.  “Every lesson we learned kicking the competition around on the track over the past two years has been poured into this new car to keep Shelby owners out front.”

That is why the company mounts an optional Shelby/Kenne Bell supercharger kit, which raises power output to 725 horsepower.  You can also take the car down a peg, and opt for the Ford Racing Supercharger, which helps to produce a maximum 630 hp and 590 ft-lb of torque.  Either way, the driver will take control of a six-speed manual gearbox featuring a 3.73:1 rear axle ratio via the short-throw shifter.  A Borla exhaust unit is also included on both.

The Super Snake gets a standard Ford Racing handling package, which includes lowered springs, adjustable dampers, front strut tower brace and tuned stabilizer bars.  You can purchase the optional Shelby/Eibach handling package as well.  Custom Alcoa 20-inch wheels surround the cross drilled rotors.  A six-piston Shelby/Baer brake system is also part of the package, as are the front brake cooling ducts.

Visual changes begin with the new fiberglass hood, Super Snake striping, rear decklid lettering, and various badging.  Shelby headrests and floormats are also included.

Although the company does say that, “Exclusivity will be assured as a limited number of Super Snakes will be built,” what they do not say is how few units will be produced.  This information would surely be beneficial to anybody considering the car as an investment.

The 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake will begin production in August.  Pricing for the 630 hp package starts at $29,495, while the 725 hp kit goes for $33,495.  Installation is included, but the price of the car is not.

Ford Mustang ‘X-1′ and Dodge Challenger ‘Vapor’ Revealed

Posted by admin

Ford Mustang X-1 and Dodge Challenger Vapor Revealed

American tuners Galpin Auto sports have created two customs for the U.S. Air Force to wheel out on their 2009 Super Car Tour.  Both cars will be used as recruitment tools for the military outfit.

First up is the matte-pearl white Ford Mustang X-1, with an interior modeled after a fighter jet cockpit.  The muscle car seats one, but even that could be reduced: the driver sits in an ejection seat “just in case.”  Pedals are on either side of the center console, with an oddly placed flight stick in the middle to replace the steering wheel.  Three “advanced instrumentation panel(s)” take up quite a bit of space, and look to cut off some of the view outside the windshield.  But who cares?  The monitors on the panels show night- and thermal-vision almost making the windshield obsolete!

Along with other mods, three-valve Ford Racing heads are used inside the 4.6 liter engine to bring the output up to 500 hp.  Vertical doors are meant to give a more “jet-like” feel.

That feeling also translates to the Dodge Challenger Vapor thanks to the “radar-absorbing” stealth-black paintjob.  The military aspects only begin with the exterior look; stealth exhaust lets the vehicle run in near silence, but the driver can open the headers to create a surprise aggressive engine noise.  The Vapor requires biometric verification to gain entry to the driver compartment.  Once inside, the driver can view the night and thermal vision as it is projected onto the windshield.

However, if the driver is unable to get to the car, he or she can still command the vehicle from a remote control system modeled after the Air Force’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.  The remote system can be accessed worldwide through the internet.

Both cars recently were introduced in Austin, Texas by Galpin’s own Mad Mike.  Mad Mike, a fixture on “Pimp My Ride,” said, “If it was not for the U.S. Air Force, I would not have the knowledge and skills that enables me to stand where I am today.”

2010 Roush 427R Mustang Unveiled

Posted by admin

2010-roush-427r-mustang-hi-res

The new Roush 2010 427R Mustang has just been introduced to the public. Roush’s fifth version of the car gets 435 hp and 400 ft-lb of torque, thanks in part to the company’s custom built supercharger.

Included with the performance upgrades is a bodykit that gives some significant changes to the car’s look. The one-piece rear fascia gives the Mustang an overall cleaner look, while being treated to reduce the affects of rocks striking the paint. Over the trunk is a three-piece wing, also custom made. The front fascia and splitter are new, and look very good with the 18-inch cast chrome wheels. The company has chosen Cooper Zeon tires, with the option to upgrade to a set of 20-inchers.

Although most components in the 4.6-liter engine are the same parts from the ‘05-’09 Roush Mustang, there are plenty of performance improvements on the 427R. An all-new suspension is meant to be both comfortable and performance-ready. The single core cross-flow radiator does a better job of cooling than previous versions, utilizing an intercooler reservoir that is twice the size of other models. These parts also sit higher above the street than in earlier editions, cutting down the possibility of damage due to debris. Roush touts the removal of the “long air induction tube that wrapped around the engine,” showing off a better appearance under the hood. This matches up with the higher-quality hoses, meant to keep an OEM look.

Upgrading a stock Mustang to the Roush 2010 427R Mustang will set you back over $14,000, not including delivery. The company offers plenty of optional equipment as well, which you can read about in the press release below.

Saleen reveals more SMS Limited muscle car range details

Posted by admin

Even as the Detroit Big 3 limp along almost as shadows of their former selves, Steve Saleen wants to keep the magic going on some of the classic models those automakers have recently revived in hopes of recapturing the romance of old.

Last year, Saleen launched SMS Limited and quickly went to work on creating highly-tuned performance versions of the Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger and the Chevy Camaro.

The first to go in production this month are two versions of the SMS Dodge Challenger. An SMS 570 Challenger and an SMS 570X Challenger will come with superchargers that can squeeze between 500 and 700 horsepower out of Chrysler’s 5.7 liter V8 Hemi engine. SMS Limited will also be tweaking aerodynamics and suspension to go with the additional power flow and also promises more attention to interiors with premium leather and other top-notch components.

The SMS 570 with 500 hp will be priced at 60,000 US dollars. The 570X, with an additional 200 horses, will cost 10,000 more.

Saleen will announce later this year details on the 460 Mustang, based on the 2010 Ford Mustang. According to the Detroit News, the 460 will come with SMS Limited’s patented Red Butterfly Induction hood topping the supercharged 4.6 liter V8.

Details on the SMS Chevy Camaro should follow soon afterward.

These SMS Limited vehicles can be ordered through Ford, Chevrolet or Dodge dealers.

2010 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang Revealed

Posted by admin

Building on standing but unspoken tradition, Ford is to unveil the most powerful Ford SVT-tuned performance Mustang ever in Detroit. The 2010 Shelby GT500 has had its power hiked to 540hp / 402kW and some 510 foot-pounds of torque.

“We’re proud of the many enhancements that were developed jointly by the Ford and Shelby Automobiles team last year that we’ve now incorporated into the new 2010 Shelby GT500,” said Carroll Shelby, founder of Shelby Automobiles. “Building on what we learned to create the Shelby GT500KR, this new car offers a great combination of power, handling and braking. It is truly a special car that is a great deal of fun to drive.”

The GT500 uses a 5.4-litre V8 engine with a supercharger to make its 540hp while redline is pegged at 6,250 rpm. That power dome on the hood is not only for bragging rights but serves to scoop up cool air to keep the engine at its best peak performance level. A manual transmission was upgraded and fitted, and it makes use of a twin-disc clutch. Engineers spend a lot of time making sure the car’s exhaust note was audible, yet not overpowering, so you still know you are driving something special but without excessive interior intrusion.

Inside it features lots of “GT500″ and “SHELBY” logos, leather fittings, voice-activated satellite navigation and custom interior lighting fitments.
