B&B Gives VW Golf R 362hp

Posted by admin

B&B has unveiled a new tuning program for the Volkswagen Golf R.

Available in three different configurations, the Golf R can be modified to produce 310, 324 and 362 PS. While details are limited, the range-topping model features a larger turbocharger, a sports exhaust system (with a larger downpipe and a racing catalyst), revised engine electrics, a new air intake, an optimized intercooler, and a Slim-Line oil cooler. Thanks to these tweaks, the 362 PS B&B Golf R can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and top out at more than 280 km/h (174 mph).

To make the most of the added power, B&B installed an adjustable coilover suspension (with sport springs that reduce the ride height by 30mm) and a high performance braking system.

While the company normally outfits their cars with Caractere body kits, B&B stated the only styling change will be the addition of exclusive 19 and 20-inch wheels.

Prior-Design PD3 based on Porsche 911 GT3

Posted by admin

German tuners Prior Design have unveiled their modified version of the 2010 911 GT3.  The Porsche 911 PD3 includes a series of aerodynamic upgrades and a custom built exhaust.

The package really revolves around the car’s new front end, which extends the car both outward and downward.  Love it or hate it, the revision provides more downforce while changing the air flow direction for the better.  This now pushes past the carbon fiber spoiler and through the redesigned air inlets.  New, deeply sculpted sidesills lead to a completely remodeled rear end.  Amongst the changes at back is a new diffuser.  As part ot the mods, the car has an adapted chassis that has been dropped by 30 millimeters.

Engineers did not modify the rear wing on the GT3.

Also available is a hand-built stainless steel exhaust, and a new set of wheels.  Now, the car rides on ultra-light, sectional forged wheels available in several different sizes.

The Porsche 911 PD3 styling kit is now available through the company’s website.  Pricing has not been disclosed.

Carlsson C25 World Premiere in Geneva

Posted by admin

Carlsson will bring a limited series, 753-horsepower car to the Geneva Motor Show.  Only 25 units of the Carlsson C25 hypercar will be produced once it debuts in March.

Based on the Mercedes SL 600 the car runs on a 6.0-liter bi-turbo V12 engine that gets the car from 0 to 100 km/h with up to 1150 Nm of torque.  However, once you go faster than 100 km/h, the car will make use of 1320 Nm.  Top speed is 352 km/h (218.7 mph).

Carlsson CEO Markus Schuster wanted his company to build a car that was safe enough for the road as well as the track.  “Therefore, we deliberately wanted to develop a car which is highly exclusive on the one hand and can be used for the daily journey to office on the other hand,” Schuster said.  “All security-relevant regulations such as pedestrian protection, crash behaviour, ESP, ABS, Airbag systems are identical to large series editions with most modern standards.”

Engineers installed a C-Tronic adaptive and variable suspension to make the car more responsive on curves, but comfortable on straight lines.  All four lightweight 20-inch wheels combine to weigh less than 45 kilograms, and come wrapped in high performance tires.  405 mm slotted brake discs are used up front, along with 380 mm discs in back.

Inside, the company used a combination of tanned buffalo leather, carbon fiber, and suede in a variety of colors.  Race seats, five-point belts, roll bars, and roll cage were all left off the car to keep the luxe vehicle comfortable.

Pricing on the limited edition Carlsson C25 will be announced closer to its Geneva debut.

Brabus GL 63 Biturbo Pumps Out 650hp

Posted by admin

German tuners Brabus released their version of the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class last month at the Dubai Motor Show.  The Brabus GL 63 Biturbo has been fitted with the Mercedes eight cylinder engine from the ML 63 AMG, tuned to deliver 650 horsepower and up to 850 Nm of torque.

If that number sounds familiar for Brabus, it is because the company used the same engine and tuning package on their ML 63 Biturbo.  That SUV debuted in Geneva a year ago with a top speed of 310 km/h (192.6 mph).

The GL 63 is a bit slower, with a top speed of 300 km/h (186.4 mph), and a 0-100 km/h sprint of 4.7 seconds.  The engine is mated to a modified version of the Speedshift 7G-Tronic automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive.  It includes a customized, and more responsive twin turbo system, large water-to-air intercooler, with other upgrades to the intake and exhaust, brakes, suspension, and tires.  The vehicle now rides on forged 23-inch wheels.  21- and 22-inch wheels are also offered.

Brabus is also making the SUV available with a Widestar package, including 3-centimeter wide fender flares, rocker panels,  a new front apron, and larger air inlets.  LED daytime running lights, underfloor lighting, and four extra headlamps have also been installed.  Roof spoiler, rear apron, and rear diffuser have all been installed, as well as a quad-pipe exhaust.

Interior upgrades include Mastik leather, Alcantara, and a choice of wood or carbon-fiber trim.  A full pallette of color options is offered for each.  LCD screens are integrated into the seats for the rear passengers, who have access to a DVD player.

The Brabus GL 63 Biturbo is now available for order, starting at €368,000.

TechArt GT Street RS Sets New Lap Record at Sachsenring

Posted by admin

When German tuners TechArt modified the Porsche GT2 little did their engineers know that the car would shatter the Sachsenring lap record set last year.  The TechArt GT Street RS slashed over four seconds off the old time, finishing the 3,671 meter circuit in 1:31.94.

The car embarassed the previous record-holding Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, which finished the same lap in 1:36.29.

The test run was recorded by AutoBild, who arranged for a comparison between the TechArt and several other cars.  Amongst the tests was a 0-100 km/h sprint, that the GT Street RS finished in 3.5 seconds.

With 690 horsepower and up to 634 ft-lb of torque, the TechArt GT Street RS shows improvements over the 997 GT2 by 160-hp and nearly 130 ft-lb.

2011 Shelby GT350 Mustang Revealed at Barrett Jackson Auction

Posted by admin

Shelby American has unveiled the Shelby GT350 at the Opening Night Gala of the Barrett-Jackson Auction to honor the 45th anniversary of the classic GT350.

The 2011 Shelby GT350 is a throwback to the MY Shelby GT350 series of the mid and late 60s, which was the first Shelby big block Cobra. The GT350 was discontinued in 1970.

The commemorative model, a limited edition series, is based on the standard Ford Mustang GT and was developed with help from Ford Racing. It features many of the styling cues of the old GT350, including the double blue stripes lengthwise across the top of the car. Ford Racing helped supercharge the engine as well as upgrade the suspension by supplying new sway bars, struts, and springs as well as adjustable caster/camber plates.

The car features the same “small block” 5.0 liter V8 from the Mustang GT, supercharged to about 500 hp, and mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The performance package also includes Baer brakes and 19-inch Cragar wheels wrapped in Goodyear sport tires.

Exterior touches at the front include a fascia and splitter, along with air scoops on the hood and side skirts. At the rear is a new fascia too and a deck lid filler panel. GT350 badges are strewn about, and the A-pillar features integrated fuel, oil and boost gauges.

The price for the 2011 Shelby GT350 package is $33,995 (23,650 euros), not including the base Mustang GT itself.
